Ultimate Edition

Fender USA 64’ Re-issue Telecaster – £2,499

The icon, one of the most revered Telecasters ever produced, the 64’ Re-issue is an ideal choice for paying tribute to Syd Barrett’s legendary Esquire.

Syd Barrett, a legendary guitarist in his own right and part of one of the most influential groups in musical history, Pink Floyd, was a man both gifted and troubled, he pioneered Pink Floyd’s debut album “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” in 1967 and his musical style and visionary ideas have left a lasting mark on musicians the world over. Syd was fond of many guitars during his career but the guitar that he admitted feeling ‘most close to’ was his dynamically customised Fender Esquire and, almost in tribute, his successor in Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, used a sunburst Fender Esquire in the group, which he later modified with an additional pickup.
Syd’s Fender Esquire was refinished in Metallic Silver and featured a series of 15 mirrored style discs stuck to the front of the body and on the scratchplate (this singular disc also featuring a small yellow sticker), giving the guitar an ‘other worldly’ feel that worked beautifully with the music that the group were producing at the time with the help of Syd’s Zippo lighter and some echo equipment. The original pickup and single ply scratchplate of the Esquire remained untouched and unlike Gilmour, Barrett’s Esquire never had equipment upgraded throughout its time with the artist, which served him long into his solo career after Pink Floyd.
An unsung hero of musical history, the Syd Barrett Esquire now finds its place amongst the other stunning guitars in our line up, a must for the dedicated fan, great care and attention to detail has been incorporated into the replication of Syd’s Esquire to create a perfect tribute.
